July 5 (Reuters) – Telecom and media firm Quebecor (QBRb.TO) said on Wednesday it will pull its ads from Facebook and Instagram, following Meta Platforms’ (META.O) decision to stop access to news on both the social media platforms in Canada over a law requiring payments to local news publishers.
The “Online News Act”, or House of Commons bill C-18, introduced in April last year laid out rules to force companies such as Meta and Alphabet-owned (GOOGL.O) Google to negotiate commercial deals and pay news publishers for their content.
Google and Meta previously said they would block access to news articles…
Seoul, South Korea (CNN) — More than 51 million people in South Korea awoke on Wednesday to find themselves a year or two younger – at least, according to the law.
Under legislation that came into effect Wednesday, “all judicial and administrative areas” across the East Asian country will adopt the “international age” system used by most of the world, ending years of debate about the problems caused by the formerly common use of “ Korean age” and “calendar age.”
Standardizing ages will “reduce various social confusions and disputes,” said Lee Wan-kyu, the Minister of Government Legislation, at a news…

If the property is in your name only, it is sometimes the belief that the other person should be the one to leave. However there are circumstances, in particular if you have children, where you may be wise to think differently.
In instances where, for example, the other parent has no means to pay rent to live elsewhere, effectively leaving them unable to put a roof over the head of their child, then a Court would look less favorable on you. This is because in family law, where children are involved, the ‘best interests of the child’ is to be…
In a recent decision, the High Court of England and Wales has found that Tesco’s use of the yellow and blue Tesco Clubcard logos (reproduced below) infringed Lidl’s trade marks (see the relevant Lidl marks below) and also gave rise to copyright infringement and passing off.
The supermarket chains have been in a battle over the use of their respective signs with a square blue background and yellow circle. Unlawful Police Power, Going To Jail NSW And Over-Policing
“Over-policing” of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is an issue that was highlighted by the Redfern Legal Center head of police accountability and government law, Samantha Lee. Ms Lee cited tougher bail laws, more police powers and the Suspect Targeting Management Plan (STMP), that’s unique to NSW, as reasons for the inequity.
Lawyer and advocate Samantha Lee identified that NSW police were unlawfully strip searching Australians. It was for this reason that the RLC began the ‘Safe & Sound’ campaign, in order to stop the high number of police strip…
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In the past two years, lawmakers in at least 11 states have sought to loosen child labor laws to help employers fill empty jobs, even as federal officials and news investigations suggest that many minors working in manufacturing, meatpacking and construction jobs are being exploited or hurt.
The unemployment rate sits at 3.5% — a level last reached in 1969 — and businesses of all types, from factories to restaurants to retail stores, are struggling to find workers.
Some state legislators, mostly Republicans, see teenagers as a partial solution. They also argue that relaxing the rules will…
Law & Order: SVU is on 24 seasons and counting (thanks to the recent renewal) without giving Benson/Stabler fans everything they want from the iconic TV duo, but all signs point toward another pairing ending the season on a very high note. Let’s start at the beginning.
